For State Senate
After graduating from college and graduate school and prior to serving in the legislature, Martha Fuller Clark worked in historic preservation as an educator and consultant. She has lived Portsmouth for 38 years with her husband Dr. Geoffrey Clark and their three children, Caleb (age 35), Nathaniel (age 28), and Anna (age 26). During this time, in addition to her professional work, Martha has served on numerous non-profit boards and used her expertise to promote and protect the historic nature of the city. She has also taken part in numerous community projects throughout the Seacoast.
First elected to serve in 1990, Martha spent 12 years in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. For the past six years, she has served in the New Hampshire Senate representing District 24, which consists of the following communities: Greenland, Hampton, Hampton Falls, New Castle, Newington, North Hampton, Portsmouth and Rye.
Currently Martha Fuller Clark is President Pro Tem of the Senate. In addition, Martha is Chair of the Energy, Environment and Economic Development Committee, Vice Chair of the Executive Departments and Administration Committee and also serves as a member in the Education Committee and Transportation and Interstate Commerce Committee.
During her 18 years in the legislature Martha has been a forceful and effective advocate for everyone. She has introduced many bills over the years relating to healthcare, jobs, education, energy, smart growth, transportation, voting rights, woman’s rights and equal rights. It is clear that her role as leader in the legislature is reflected by number of these bills that have actually become law. During these past difficult economic times, Martha joined forces with Governor Lynch to eliminate the $300 million dollar deficit with no new taxes and without gambling. She continues to oppose funding education through donor communities.
"I'm running for reelection because I truly care about everyone on the Seacoast and across the state. We all want the same things- jobs and a strong economy, quality education for our kids, healthy families and a safe environment. I am proud of my leadership in the Senate on these issues, and if I am reelected, I will continue to work to build a better New Hampshire for all of us."
